Honduras Deal Reached - Now What?

By Saulo G. Londono | 10/30/09

It's troubling the degree to which the media has misrepresented the Honduras situation and outright omitted important aspects of what's happened in the last few months. The only source of legitimate commentary on this has come from Mary Anastasia O'Grady with The Wall Street Journal.   For those who haven't kept up with the news from Honduras, I've outlined what's happening here and here.  President Barack Obama and Secretary of... read more »

Assemblyman Hagman Introduces Legislation to Condemn Early Release of Libyan Terrorist

By Saulo G. Londono | 08/25/09

I'm proud to say that my boss, Assemblyman Curt Hagman, has just introduced language (ACR 92) across the Assembly desk in order to condemn the actions of the Scottish government in the early release of Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi. In the Assemblyman's own words on Flashreport:  Abdelbaset is a Libyan terrorist who was convicted of 270 counts of murder on January 31, 2001, for his part in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over... read more »

Hugo Chávez's "Educational Project"

By Saulo G. Londono | 08/14/09

The Venezuelan National Assembly, which is controlled by the government, approved last night around midnight a controversial educational project which Hugo Chávez seeks to accelerate the "Bolivarian Revolution" in his country with.  This project is one of many proposed by the Chávez government, in an offensive to fight off what they call "counter-revolutionary" forces within its country. That's... read more »

Obama Unfamiliar with Key Health Care Provision

By Saulo G. Londono | 07/21/09

"You know, I have to say that I am not familiar with the provision you are talking about." That's what our President said during a conference call, in response to a liberal blogger's question about Section 102 of H.R. 3200.  In case you missed it, that's the provision that effectively regulates private insurance out of our healthcare system. I may have to update my previous post about this issue to reflect... read more »

Obama Back-Tracking on Campaign Promise

By Saulo G. Londono | 07/16/09

Since the campaign season, then-candidate Obama made no qualms about telling people that his healthcare plan would not force Americans into the public program.  Any reasonable voter would take away from the statement, that if he/she chooses to use private insurers, that he/she would be able to.   In the latest of his cynical moves, President Obama is now back-tracking on that promise.  Even less than a month ago members of... read more »

Memo to President Obama: READ the Honduran Constitution

By Saulo G. Londono | 07/02/09

Earlier this week I wrote about the root of the crisis in Honduras.  Ever since then I've struggled to watch President Obama make some of the most offensive, ignorant statements I've heard in a long time.  As a South American immigrant, I'm furious. Latin America has suffered enough from ill-advised American foreign policy meddling in their internal affairs. Although I'm not really surprised by the politics behind President... read more »

Understanding the Crisis in Honduras

By Saulo G. Londono | 06/28/09

The political crisis in Honduras that led to the detention and exile of President Manuel Zelaya by the Honduran Army this Sunday was rooted in a dispute between the Executive branch and the other established powers in Honduras: Congress, the Supreme Court, and the Military. While President Obama has chosen to tip-toe around the issue, socialist leaders have strongly condemned the "coup".  This is not a big surprise as... read more »

Incorporation of the Second Amendment? Nordyke v. King Ruling is Out

By Saulo G. Londono | 04/20/09

I just got a heads up from my Second Amendment enthusiast friends about this morning's 9th District ruling, and the implications it can have on CCW lawsuits.  At hand is the question of whether or not the Second Amendment applies, via the Fourteenth, to state and local governments. Since I'm not a lawyer I've been asking around about how exactly this could influence California law, and specifically how it will impact existent... read more »

Assemblyman Hagman: GOP Legislative Hero?

By Saulo G. Londono | 02/17/09

I've always been proud to say that my boss is not the kind to be an idling bystander, but an unusual event last night gave him an opportunity to show everyone exaclty how much he likes to get involved.  From Capitol Weekly: "Thank goodness we weren't in lockdown last night."  Those were the words of freshman Assemblyman Curt Hagman, who pulled two people from a burning car in downtown Sacramento at 8:30pm... read more »

Barack on Taxes: The Day of Infamy

By Saulo G. Londono | 10/08/08

With all this talk about the economy and who will or won't raise your taxes, it's fair enough to address some of Obama's past votes regarding taxes and the economy.  From the Obama Watch files:(June 09, 2008)  From billions to trillions; Obama is campaigning to move up the tax-raising food chain. Researching Obama's record on taxes during his time in the Illinois State Senate was fun.  Reading transcripts from legislative... read more »
