Scapegoating the Olympics

President Obama's administration cronies and his cheerleaders in the press may be well advised to keep any overt criticism of the International Olympic Committee close to the vest.

Let's face it, the IOC is one of the most corrupt and corruptible organizations on the planet.  Which makes the decision to drop Chicago in the selection for the 2016 Olympics ironic in and of itself, given Chi-towns penchant for below-board politics.  That being said, folks like Axelrod better temper their criticism of the IOC's decision lest it backfire at some future point.

Organizations like the IOC have a long memory.  Other American cities at some point in the future will be in the running to bring an Olympics back to the States.  The IOC may think twice about considering America for a long time if they feel we're simply blaming the world community for the sake of some misguided view of President Obama's omnipotence.

Yes, Obama expended a lot of capital on this.  And failed.  It is embarrassing, more so for Obama's image than for the United States (two other countries also lost out, but no other countries leaders did), but nevertheless.  But Obama will not always be president and American cities will be in the running in the future.  Let's not ruin future chances (perhaps even for Chicago again at some point) by crying over spilt milk.
