Continuing Red County's coverage of the highly contested City Council election in Garden Grove, today's post will be on the financial report of Trung Nguyen, Andrew Do, Paul Lucas, Robin Marcario, and Charles Mitchell.

Last week, I wrote a post on Steve Jones, Linh Ho, and Bill Dalton.

TRUNG NGUYEN - He reported raising a total of $53,570, of that amount, $2,700 is a loan.  Trung spent $16, 561, mostly on slates, and other forms of literature.  His cash on hand is $37,008.  The biggest contributors are Assemblyman Van Tran, and Michael Schroeder who donated $10,000 and $5,000, respectively.  Overall this is a decent showing on Trung's part, but it doesn't make him the instant frontrunner since both Steve Jones and Andrew Do raised somewhat a similar amount.

ANDREW DO- He raised $57,391 and also loaned his campaign an additional $10,000, which bring his total up to $67,391 in monetary contributions.  Do also listed various non monetary contributions totaling up to $5,636: donated stakes for the 4x8 signs, postage and food.  He already spent $33,858 and his ending cash balance is $44,614.  Andrew Do has a broad fundraising base ranging from legal colleagues, country contractors, and Vietnamese businesses.  His top three contributors are: Garden Grove Firefighters Association - $,5,000; CD Video Manufacturing, Inc. - $5,000; and the Orange County Employees Association - $7,500. Do spent most of his money are slates, advertisements on VNCR radio, consultant retainers, and signs.  So far he already dropped at least three mailers that i'm awared of: a "public safety" piece, a "Vietnamese" piece, and a "negative" piece against arch nemesis Trung Nguyen.  The Do campaign is also dropping flower pots on people's doormats this past weekend.  I am certain that Andrew Do will have to dump more personal money in at the current pace that he is going.

PAUL LUCAS
- In this reporting period, Paul Lucas raised only $2,849.  He spent $4,329, thus leaving him with an ending cash balance of $1,172.  However, Paul is a spirited campaigner as he has been walking precincts for the past three months.  Even under such a limited budget, I think Lucas will perform better than expectation because he will pick up a lot of votes from West Garden Grove and the folks who are kind of unhappy with minority candidates.

ROBIN MARCARIO - She raised $7,175 and loaned herself an additional $5,000.  She spent the bulk of her money on slates, and as of September 30, her cash on hand is $506.  I don't think you can survive October with just that meager amount.  Therefore unless Marcario is willing to dump in another $20,000, she won't get higher than 6th place.

CHARLES MITCHELL
- "SWITCH" to MITCH didn't do that much better than the last two when it comes to raising money.  Mitchell only raised $1,121 and loaned himself $3,357.  He hardly spent any of it at all except for the ballot statement and is left with a cash on hand of $1,951.
